Oily Skin Care Facts

To start the debate on oily skin care, it’s urgent to first understand the cause behind shiny skin. The excessive production of sebum, a substance produced by the skin, leads to shiny skin. As is known to everyone, excess of everything is bad; so OTT sebum is bad too. It leads to the formation of acne as it clogs the pores, making dead cells amass. Moreover, shiny skin spoils your looks too. So, ‘oily skin care’ is as important as the ’skin care’ for other sorts of skin.

The basic purpose of ‘oily skin care’ is the removal of excessive sebum or oil from the skin. However, shiny skin care procedures shouldn’t lead to complete removal of oil. The utilization of a cleanser is the start of greasy skin care. However, not all cleansers will work. You want a cleaner which has salicylic acid i.e. A beta-hydroxy acid that retards the rate of sebum production. Cleaning should be done 2 times a day (and even more in hot and wet conditions).

Most of the oily skin care products are oil-free; however, it is usually good to check the ingredients of the product, before you really get it. If a product is marked ’suitable for all skin types’, be extra care. ‘Oily skin care’ is also dependent on the degree of oiliness, if you aren’t too oily, so a few of these ’suitable for all’- type of products might be work for you too. For extremely oily skin, only shiny skin care products are acceptable. For intensely greasy skin, you should use an alcohol-based toner. After cleansing, this is the second step of your routine. However, you could harm your skin if you tone excessively.

The following step in your greasy skin care routine can be a mild moisturiser. Whether or not you want to include this in your routine relies on the degree of oiliness. Be sure to use a moisturizer that is wax, lipid, and oil-free.

Another skin care measure that you can utilize is a clay mask, and you may use this once a week or so.

You will need to try several skin care products before you find one that’s acceptable for your skin.

In case these measures don’t give you the desired result, consult a good dermatologist for recommendation. He could prescribe stronger oily skin care products like vitamin A creams, retinoids, sulphur creams etc, which can help counter the problems of shiny skin.
